How to Create Mesmerizing Eyes in this Season's Hottest Color

Makeup Tutorial
The Look: Purple Haze

For this look I wanted to display a simple version of the colored Smokey eye. This look is very wearable and you can play it up or tone it down as you see fit.  Here’s what I did:

Step 1:  Be sure to prime your lids first in order to get the most color saturation possible.  Place the primer anywhere you plan on applying eye shadow. I used the Eye/Lip Primer. Be sure to avoid applying foundation until you are done so you won’t have a smeared mess in the middle of your look.

Step 2: Use either a black shadow or some sort of dark shadow as a base and apply up to the crease.  Be careful not to go to high. I used: Pressed eye shadow:” Jetliner”

Step 3: Next, apply your loose purple eye shadow to the crease and stop right under the brow bone. Be sure to pat the color on to avoid “fallout”. I used: loose eye shadow in “Purplexed”.

Step 4: At the brow bone, apply a bone colored shimmer pressed powder and blend that color with the purple color. When I apply different colors, I used different brushes so my colors don’t look muddy. I used: Pressed eye shadow:”Canary”

Step 5: In the inner corner of the eye I applied a loose shadow in a lighter purple and continued the color on about a fourth of my waterline. I used loose eye shadow: “Purple Pink”

Step 6: I applied Black liquid liner to the top of my lash line (lid) and Black pencil to my lower lid (water line) and applied black mascara. I darkened the lower line with the shadow I used in step 2

Step 7: Fill in your brows and add false lashes (if you want). Get rid of any eye shadow fallout and apply your foundation, blush and lipgloss/Lipstick. I used: Foundation “Powder in C9”; Blush: “Hot N Spicy”; Lips: Gloss in “Pin-Up”

HOW TO CHOOSE THE PERFECT FOUNDATION- PART 2

Now that you've found the perfect foundation, here are some pointers for maintaining the perfect face.

Tools for Flawless Foundation All Day:
·       Blotting sheets: Great for removing oil not makeup off your face. You can then re apply powder if you’d like. Foundation will not look cakey using blotting sheets first.
·      Face Primer: Use this before applying any foundation. This will help conceal pores and fight off oil during the day. Your foundation will last longer and look fresh longer.

*As you age, remember to re evaluate your skin type and foundation formula you are using.
*You may need to change formulas or choose skin care/foundation with anti aging properties in them.

Easy Tips for looking great all day:
·       If your foundation looks white or grey in pictures you have chosen the wrong color. Pictures tell us the real deal.
·      If your foundation clumps or sits in certain areas on your face and does not look smooth try exfoliation during your skin care regimen. This will help eliminate dead skin and leave you with a smooth face.
·      If your foundation leaves a trail (i.e. rubs off on everything) try setting it with loose or pressed powder right after foundation. Powder is essential for liquid and cream foundation. Your body temperature heats up the foundation and causes it to slide around if touched.

That’s it for now. Stay tuned for our next post and don’t forget to subscribe to our blog today for more great tips. Visit us at www.essencebc.com for awesome cosmetics that will look perfect on you!

How To Choose The Right Foundation Color- Part 1

Are you tired of buying foundation only to find out it looks totally different in the store than at home or outside?  Well, i'm here to help you find the perfect color match for your skin tone once and for all.  If you follow these simple steps you will have success!

1.  When shopping, try not to rush. You want to take your time and get all your questions answered.  I would suggest going to a department store so that you can get professional help and actually see how the foundation looks on your skin rather than just looking at the bottle.

2.  Be sure your face is as clear as possible. Other foundation and makeup can distort the colors you are trying on.

3. Choose at least 3 colors to test on your jawline. Don't test the colors on your inner wrist or hand. Those places are not the same color as your face and don't get as much sun so that's not a good place to test foundation. Be sure to take into consideration the type of skin you have.  You want to choose a foundation formula that is the same as your skin type.

4.  Once the 3 colors are applied, let them sit for a few seconds then go outside to see which color disappears into your skin.  If you can't see it, its a match.  If you can, try other colors. If you cannot go outside try to find a place with as much natural light as possible so you can see what the colors really look like.

Well, that's it for part 1. Stay tuned for part 2 coming very soon!  In the meantime visit http://www.essencebc.com/ for the perfect foundation match!

The look for this season is soft and fresh, really romantic.  Colors from Lilac to Deep purple were all over the runways this season.  For those of you who want to wear this color but may be a little unsure, you can always try a Purple colored eyeliner and build from there.
